The success story behind every girl’s dream wedding as a child begins with the perfect bridal dress. But once he pops the big question, how do you begin your quest for the right wedding gown?
Are you thinking about your wedding dress? Me too!! Little girls dream about their future weddings and all want the fairy tale to come true for them.
Some little girls, such as myself, cut out pictures of things that they may someday want for their weddings and keep them in a special place to look at someday.
Remembering My First Wedding
I remember being 11 years old when my 20-year old sister was planning her wedding. I cut out lots of pictures of bridal gowns and flowers, cakes and decorations that I wanted to keep in case I ever got married. I wasn’t too into boys then, but I figured that I might like them someday.
Now, I’m planning my own wedding at the age of 22. I pulled out that old shoe box of pictures I’d kept from my sister’s wedding and smiled at all of them. Some of them were definitely out of style, but others gave me some wonderful ideas.
Suddenly, I found myself looking through bridal magazines looking to plan my own fairy tale wedding. My first task was to go shopping for the perfect gown. Until this point, I had no idea that there were so many bridal gowns in existence. I guess I’d never really given much thought to the pages and pages of gowns in all of those wedding magazines.
My mother dragged me to the first corner and suggested that I start just browsing, seeing if anything jumps out to grab my attention. Nothing did. For the first hour, I was still too overwhelmed by all of the bridal gowns to narrow anything down.
The salespeople kept making suggestions for me but I wanted to find something on my own. They finally got the hint and left me alone with my own fantasies and thoughts.
Some Advice for Choosing the Right Bridal Dress
You first have to decide what you are looking for in a store before you begin to shop for your dress. Some bridal stores will offer a discount if you purchase your wedding dress and your bridesmaids dresses through them.
This will be up to you, and you should look at their selection before you decide. You also need to consider what type of help you need when visiting bridal stores.
A Large Apparel Chain or the Local Bridal Shop?
If you really have no idea what you want, you’ll need a lot of attention. Even though chain bridal stores like David’s Bridal tend to have a larger selection, you may find the staff to be overworked and you may feel neglected.
Back to the Story - Down to Only Four Dress Choices
After another hour, I’d chosen four bridal gowns that I felt were elegant enough to try on. With the help of a very nice saleslady and my mother, I tried them on. The final gown that I put on was stunning.
I looked in the mirror and gasped. I knew just by glancing in the mirror that it was meant to be my wedding gown. My mother’s eyes met mine and she nodded. The ironic part was that the picture of the perfect dress that I’d been holding since I was young, looked very similar to this one.
Maybe at the age of 11, I already knew what I wanted. I didn’t need to look through tons of bridal gowns to figure that out. I'm now in that fairy tale wedding as I knew I would be when I was a girl. Dreamy, huh?
